AVIC To Develop Aviation-Themed Amusement Parks

Chinese Company Says 'Five Or Six' Parks Are Planned

The Chinese aviation conglomerate AVIC plans to spend the equivalent of $20 million to develop aviation and aerospace-themed amusement parks across China. The company hopes to entice Chinese citizens to spend some of their discretionary income visiting the parks.

Overall, the company plans five or six such parks with the first one scheduled to open in 2017, according to a report from Bloomberg. In a statement emailed to media outlets, AVIC said that it is looking at locations in Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shaanxi and Sichuan, as well as others.

The parks would average 81 acres, and include such attractions as an aviation museum, flight simulators, aircraft design incubators, and aviation-themed hotels ... which would offer meals typical of airline flights or those served to Chinese fighter pilots.

“There will be a big market for leisure activities and AVIC can’t be left out as new leisure products emerge and aviation becomes a way of life for many,” Lin Zuoming, who heads AVIC, said in the statement.
