Red Tail Project Spotlighted By Minnesota Twins

Event Headlined By Lt. Col. Harold Brown

One of the original Tuskegee Airmen will headline a Minnesota Twins Salute to World War II veterans Wednesday, Sept. 7th, at the Metrodome.

Dr. Harold Brown, Lt Col USAF (Ret.), of Minneapolis, was among the nearly 1,000 young black men who fought both racial prejudice and the German Luftwaffe as a pilot in the famed 332nd fighter group, known for its trademark "Red Tails."

Dr. Brown will throw out the first ball and will also be available for autographs and photo opportunities at the Red Tail Project booth on the Metrodome concourse before and after the game with the Texas Rangers.

Red Tail Project volunteers will be there to answer questions about the educational effort and their work to restore the centerpiece of the project: a P51-C fighter like those flown by many of the Tuskegee Airmen.

Also joining Dr. Brown will be another WW II veteran, Lawrence “Larry” Brown, Minneapolis, who served 52 months and took part in the invasions of North Africa, Sicily and Italy.

This special day to honor all veterans of the conflict closely coincides with the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Cirrus Design is a leading supporter of the Red Tail project.

“The Red Tail Project is about keeping alive the spirit of the Tuskegee Airmen, and retaining this important part of aviation history for future generations to learn about and be inspired by,” said Dale Klapmeier, CIRRUS co-founder and executive vice president.

A banner with the logos of the Red Tail Project and Cirrus Design, will be prominently displayed during the game to give additional visibility to the project and the day’s theme.
