Antonov Rolls Out AN-132D Military Transport

Projects Nearly 300 Aircraft In Service By 2035

A new multipurpose military transport aircraft was unveiled recently by Antonov, a subsidiary of Ukraine's state-owned Ukroboronprom in a ceremony attended by high-ranking government officials including Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko.

UPI reports that the AN-132D military transport is designed for short- and medium-haul cargo routes, and is capable of carrying up to 9.2 tons. Ukroboronprom revealed plans for the aircraft in May 2015 when the company completed an agreement with Tanqnia Aeronautics based in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is scheduled for its first flight in the spring of 2017.

IHS Janes reports that Saudi Arabia plans to acquire six of the aircraft; two for electronic warfare missions and 4 for search and rescue.

During the ceremony, President Poroshenko expressed confidence that the airplane will have a "great future. We are confident that it will have 260-290 aircraft by 2035."
