Israeli Apaches Collide Over Northern Israel

Four Soldiers Injured; Some Report Deaths

Two Israeli AH-64 Apache helicopters collided in the dark over Northern Israel Thursday night, as the conflict between the Jewish state and Hezbollah fighters intensified in southern Lebanon.

Casualty reports are still muddled. Some say at least two crewmembers aboard the helos were killed in the crash... others say there were no fatalities, but at least five people were hurt.

It happened about six miles from the border between Israel and Lebanon... where the battle between Israeli and Muslim fighters has now entered its tenth day.

It was the worst mid-air collision involving Israeli military aircraft since 1997... when more than 70 Israeli soldiers were killed as two transport helicopters ran into each other while en route to Lebanon.

There's no indication what led to Thursday night's mishap. An investigation is now underway.
