SpiceJet Passenger Spends Indian Flight Stuck in Bathroom

'Traumatized, Dazed, and Injured' Pax Spent 105 minutes Locked in 737 Head

A SpiceJet passenger bound for Bengaluru spent the entire 1-hour 45 minute flight locked in the bathroom, after the latch malfunctioned - and he says he's suffered trauma from the incident.

The passenger, a 37-year old traveler, headed off to the lavatory not long after takeoff, and spent almost the entire flight locked inside. Attempts to open the door by the crew and other passengers remained unsuccessful throughout the flight. Instead, the crew merely slipped a note under the door:

"Sir we tried our best to open the door, however, we could not. Do not panic," the note reportedly said. "We are landing in a few minutes, so please close the commode lid and sit on it and secure yourself. As soon as the main door is open, an engineer will come."

The flight continued as usual, arriving in Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport. Local maintenance staff were able to fix the latch and free the passenger.

"Throughout the journey, our crew provided assistance and guidance to the passenger. Upon arrival, an engineer opened the lavatory door, and the passenger received immediate medical support," SpiceJet told local journos. They clarified that there was a "malfunction in the door lock".

"SpiceJet regrets and apologizes for the inconvenience caused to the passenger," said the carrier. "The passenger is being provided a full refund."

The passenger himself is none too pleased. "I was traumatized, dazed and injured as I was thrown around inside the toilet as the plane landed in Bengaluru."
