Acting Prime Minister Of Belize Safe After Airplane Accident

Aircraft He Was Aboard Wend Town In The Water Off The Cost Of Palencia

An airplane with the acting Prime Minister of Belize on board was involved in an accident Friday, but was not seriously injured, according to a government news release.

The accident occurred at about 8:45 am local time. Acting Prime Minister Hon. Patrick Faber along with Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment and Sustainable Development and Immigration Hon. Godwin Hulse were enroute to Punta Gorda Town via a Tropic Air flight.

On takeoff from the Placencia Airstrip, the left landing wheel made contact with a passing vehicle that had managed to bypass one of the lowered barriers. The impact caused the Tropic Air vessel to plunge into the sea right off the coast of Placencia not far from the airstrip. A rescue team was sent out and all passengers onboard the plane, including the pilot, were transported safely back to land. Preliminarily, there are no reports of any sustained injuries.

The Government of Belize had said yesterday that Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, had left the country for Houston, Texas, yesterday, November 16, on personal leave. He will return on Tuesday, November 21, 2017.
