NBAA Issues Call To Members To Fight User Fees

Suggests Contacting Members Of Congress During Recess Period

The NBAA is calling on its members to contact members of Congress during this recess with a message that they should oppose any FAA reauthorization bill that calls for privatized air traffic control funded by user fees.

"This is a critical time for our industry," said a letter from Chris Strong, Senior Vice President, Conventions & Membership emailed to ANN. "Once Congress is back in session, any FAA reauthorization bill introduced that calls for a privatized air traffic control system funded by user fees will affect how you conduct your business. Join NBAA and lend us your voice, so we can fight this dangerous proposal on your behalf."

NBAA says potential consequences from such a bill could mean limited or no access to key airspace and airports – With a privatized ATC system run by a self-interested "board," you could lose the ability to fly the routes that best fit your business needs.

Operating costs could also significantly increase, the association says. Instead of funding FAA with the fuel tax, this new proposal would cost you each time you take off with a user fee.

Additionally, "your ability to take off and land when you need to could be diminished in favor of commercial aircraft," NBAA warns.
