Aero-News Returns To Orlando For I/ITSEC

Latest In Sim Tech To Be On Display

From November 28 through December 1, a virtual world will exist at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL as more than 450 exhibitors flood the exhibition hall with groundbreaking technology during the annual Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference -- and ANN will be there to bring you the highlights.

Inserting oneself into these artificial environments is very close to experiencing the real thing -- whether it’s a convoy in Iraq or a medical emergency in a remote village -- according to an I/ITSEC release.

Those attending the conference and exhibition, will be able to interact freely with the dozens of simulators and all the other cutting edge, environment-creating technology on the floor

Among the highlights of this year's gathering are:

  • A simulation of an international crisis, presented on a thirty-foot jumbo screen, involving low intensity conflict, search and rescue and humanitarian assistance. Over fifty agencies and organizations from Europe, Asia and North America will participate in real time, providing coordinated responses to the many challenges faced in this hyper-realistic “game”.
  • Three-dimensional environments featuring interactions of the latest generations of aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and land platforms in a variety of situations, including search and rescue, combat, and disaster relief.
  • A multi-vehicle convoy trainer, designed to teach IED (improvised explosive device) avoidance techniques, combined tactics and urban warfare. This series of real vehicles will be virtually linked to air support and other assets that can be drawn into a given scenario, including environments representing actual towns and cities in Iraq.
  • A virtual medical emergency facility, demonstrating civilian and military mass casualty treatment. Remote medical technologies and applications are included, as a wide variety of emergencies are simulated.
  • The Army’s Future Combat System, which links advanced communications and networking systems with soldiers, platforms, weapons and sensors. This is a large part of the future of the Army and it will be on full display.
  • Discussions featuring leading authorities on serious gaming; PC-based applications; the implications of convergence of reality with the ability to mimic it, and for the science of learning.

I/ITSEC promotes cooperation among the Armed Services, Industry, Academia and various Government agencies in pursuit of improved training and education programs, identification of common training issues and development of multiservice programs.
