Cessna 150 Pilot Survives Ditching Off Florida Coast

Law Enforcement Boat Saw Plane Go Down, Rescued Pilot

The pilot of a Cessna 150 that departed from Pompano Beach in South Florida Sunday morning was forced to ditch in the Atlantic Ocean about a mile and a half offshore, but was rescued by a law enforcement vessel that saw the aircraft go down.

The pilot, who's name has not been released, said he experienced problems with the plane and was unable to return to land. He was picked up out of the ocean and taken to Hillsboro inlet, where he was transferred to a waiting ambulance.

Miami television station WTVJ reports that FAA spokesperson Kathleen Bergen said the accident is under investigation. There was no immediate word on the extent of the pilot's injuries, if any.
