Airline Forced To Apologize For Defaced Luggage

Message Placed On Suitcase In Transit

The Australian budget carrier Jetstar has issued an apology for a message that was written in airport barcode stickers on a passenger's luggage.

The passenger, who was traveling from Perth to Brisbane in Australia found "I AM GAY" spelled out on the outside of his suitcase when it appeared at baggage claim. The passenger, who was not named but goes by the Twitter handle @aaronpp, sent a photo of the vandalized luggage out on social media service. He later posted that he doesn't know anyone who may have been handling luggage for Jetstar, but did mention that his flight was delayed by over an hour. "Idle hands, perhaps," he posted, according to the website Advocate.com.

The photo was posted on several websites, including The Huffington Post, The Sydney Morning Herald, and International Business Times.

In a statement, a Jetstar spokeswoman said "We are taking this matter very seriously and we have contacted the passenger to apologize for any distress caused."

The passengers said he is straight, and the married father of two.
