Honeywell Developing Advanced Growth LTS101 Engine

New Engine to Deliver 23% More Power at Takeoff

There's LOTS of news coming in from ANN's talented crew of Rotor-Heads at Heli-Expo 2003... like the fact that Honeywell has announced the development of an advanced growth engine for the LTS101 engine family.

The next LTS101 version, designated the LTS101-950, will have an advanced technology compressor.  The LTS101-950 will maintain present LTS101 engine footprint in existing airframes and will enable engine power upgrades for existing LTS101 operators and for future helicopter platforms providing up to a 23% increase at takeoff and a 35% increase for single-engine conditions.

"The LTS101-950 is built on a modular basis so existing -750 and -850 engines may be upgraded," said Bob Miller, Program Manager, Honeywell Engines, Systems & Services.  "This is especially valuable for the US Coast Guard HH-65 fleet which would save more than $130 million over replacement engine approaches."

"Honeywell's new -950 will include all previous engine upgrades and improvements including a cooled Gas Producer Turbine (GPT) that will more than double service life from 6300 cycles to 15,000 cycles, delivering reduced operation and maintenance costs to operators. The power improvements will allow increased operating gross weights, increased payloads for expanding missions expected due to Homeland Defense and could also reduce over-water operating limitations, and provide greater operation capability.
