Career spanned several decades in fixed and rotary wing aircraft

C.W. "Wes" Moore, 84, died Thursday, March 18, 2004. Born on Sept. 22, 1919, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of the late George Moore and Ruth Hamilton Moore, and a graduate of Syracuse University.

He had worked at Bell Aircraft from 1938 to 1943, and obtained his private and commercial pilot certificates in 1939. From 1947 to 1949, he was chief pilot and operations manager at Trabajos Aereos y Representaciones in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He retired as President and CEO of MBB Helicopter Corp.

During his career he was also former president of Chicago Helicopter Airways Inc.; former director of commercial programs for Boeing Co.; and on the board of directors of Keystone Helicopter Corp.

During WWII, he served in the U.S. Air Army Corps., and was a 1st Lieutenant Plane Commander of B-26, B-24 and B-29-type aircraft.  He also served with the 7th Bombing Group and has two battle stars. During his service to the country he served in China, Burma, and India. among other locations.

The American Helicopter Society made him an honorary member, and he was the recipient of the Lawrence D. Bell Memorial Award; and the Golden Hour Award, EMS Helicopter.  He was past director, Air Transport Association of America; member, president, director, treasurer of Helicopter Association of America; member of International Air Transport Association; member of National Aviation Club; past president and member of Helicopter Club of America; treasurer and past president of Twirly Birds; president of Helicopter Foundation of America.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Wesley Moore, Richard Moore and Philip Moore; three daughters, Maria Ines Lambert, Carmen Browne and Lisa Moore; two sisters, Florence Moore and Joan Sullivan; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
