Beech 18 Down Near Opa Locka Airport In South Florida

Pilot Of The Cargo Plane Fatally Injured

A Beech 18 on a cargo flight went down in a residential neighborhood near the Opa Locka airport in Florida Monday morning. The pilot reportedly was fatally injured in the accident.

Multiple media sources indicate that the accident occurred about 0815 EDT Monday. In a news conference aired on television station WSVN in Miami, Miami-Dade fire and rescue chief Jose Herrera said the airplane was likely on its way to the Bahamas at the time of the accident. He confirmed that the pilot of the aircraft did not survive.

The plane reportedly struck two cars and a house when it impacted the ground. The aircraft was completely destroyed. No one other that the pilot was thought to be injured.
