AEA Names Kevin Bruce Director of Engineering & Certification

Mr. Bruce “Honored to Take on this Expanded Role …”

The Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA) has named Kevin Bruce its director of engineering and certification. Mr. Bruce formally assumed the responsibilities of the newly-established position on 16 October 2023.

Formerly, Mr. Bruce served as the Association’s Canadian region regulatory consultant (since 2013) and as Diamond Aircraft’s director of airworthiness and quality (since 2006). A one-time regional manager for Aircraft Certification at Transport Canada, Mr. Bruce brings extensive regulatory knowledge and engineering experience to his new AEA role. In light of the ongoing development and accelerated introduction of technologically-advanced aircraft and the resultant, unprecedented growth of the aircraft electronics industry, Mr. Bruce will help support the AEA’s expanding efforts within the provinces of government and industry affairs.

AEA president and CEO Mike Adamson stated: “Kevin’s professional background and years of experience with the AEA will benefit our members and industry alike as he focuses on the engineering and certification of avionics systems, emerging technologies and their fitment into next-generation aircraft. We also look forward to Kevin spearheading our efforts with the delegate community providing mentorship, training and connectivity for this underserved group of professionals.”

Mr. Bruce holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from Ryerson University and is the veteran of more than 25-years in the businesses of aircraft design, modification and repair certification—over which he’s cultivated a specialty in the erudite field of general aviation warbirds.

Bruce has headed-up certification initiatives involving various global civil aviation authorities, to include the FAA, EASA, Transport Canada, Chile’s DGAC, and Singapore’s ANAC.

Additionally, Mr. Bruce has garnered extensive experience in developing policies, procedures, and regulations germane to airworthiness, certification, and quality and safety management systems. He participated in the FAA regulatory committee to rewrite Part 23, and is actively involved on the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) committees for the new general aviation design standards (F44), aircraft systems (F39), and Light-Sport aviation (F37).

Mr. Bruce set forth: "I am honored to take on this expanded role with the AEA, and I thank the association for its support over the last ten-years. It has been a great experience so far with the whole AEA family, members, and staff. I look forward to the future and supporting our members as we enter into this exciting stage of the aviation industry."

Founded in 1957 to educate, communicate, and advocate for businesses engaged in the manufacture, support, and installation of aircraft electrical components and avionics, the Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA) represents nearly 1,300 member companies in more than forty countries.
