Airshow Performer Killed In Motorcycle Accident

Kevin Copeland And His Passenger Both Fatally Injured

Airshow performer Kevin Copeland has been fatally injured in a motorcycle accident in Antrim County, MI.

According to the Antrim County Sheriff's Department, Copeland, 29, was driving a motorcycle that hit a car which had flipped over in a two-car collision just in front of him on Sunday. His passenger, 25-year-old Erica Murphy, was also killed in the accident. Both were wearing helmets, according to the news release from the Sheriff's office.

The driver of one of the cars involved said that he suddenly noticed the car in front of him had stopped, and he was unable to avoid the collision. The car which had stopped to make a left turn rolled over into the left lane, into the path of Copeland's motorcycle.

The Petoskey News reports that Copeland had been an aerobatic performer since 2012, flying a modified Super Decathlon. He was also flew private charters for Air Services in Traverse City, MI, and was a flight instructor. He was described by airport manager Matt Barresi as a "quintessential gentleman pilot" and a strong supporter of aviation.
