CMC Electronics To Supply Satcom Antennas For Air China Cargo Aircraft

CMA-2102 System Has Two Buyers, Three Options

CMC Electronics says it's received confirmation from Air China that its high gain satellite communications (Satcom) antenna system known as the CMA-2102 has been selected for Air China Cargo's new B747-400 freighter aircraft (two firm, three options). This is the second set of orders that CMC Electronics has received from China's flag carrier, which leads the recently established China National Aviation Holding group that also includes China National Aviation Corporation and China Southwest Airlines. Initial orders covered six aircraft (three A340-300s and three B767-300s).

Bruce Bailey, CMC Electronics vice president, commercial aviation, explains: "Our customers consistently praise the reliability, performance and technical superiority of our top-mounted antenna. The performance of our CMA-2102 continues to earn its position as the clear high gain antenna of choice for the B747-400 freighter market."

Air China offered the following comments: "The proven reliability of CMC Electronics' high gain Satcom antenna has been demonstrated by its increasing worldwide market share and expanding share in China, and by its competitive price - all of which led Air China to select CMC."

CMC's CMA-2102 high gain Satcom antenna system has captured more than 75% of all Aero-H/H+ airline installations and its antenna customer list now includes over 70 airlines and a number of corporate/VIP and military operators.

CMC's high gain Satcom antenna's top-mounted technology and architecture virtually eliminate multi-path interference and allow simplified installation. The CMA-2102 fully supports Swift64 high-speed data service without modification. It enables applications ranging from intranet virtual private network (VPN) access for crews to multi-channel voice services and fast e-mail for passengers. This new Inmarsat service has been designed to meet the needs of aircraft passengers, corporate users and the flight deck, while making use of existing Aero H/H+ Satcom components already found on a large number of airline and corporate jet aircraft.

CMC Electronics designs and produces leading technology electronics products for the aviation and global positioning markets. Its principal locations are in Montreal, Quebec; Ottawa, Ontario; and Sugar Grove, Illinois. CMC Electronics is a private company controlled by an investor group led by ONCAP L.P. ONCAP is a CDN $400 million investment fund established by Onex Corporation and a number of leading Canadian financial institutions. Onex Corporation is a diversified company with annual consolidated revenues of approximately CDN $16 billion and consolidated assets of approximately CDN $14 billion. Onex is one of Canada's largest companies with global operations in the service, manufacturing and technology industries.
