Cirrus Upgrades Avidyne MFD To Offer Pre-Flight Safety Briefings

Safety - Making Smart Decisions from the Start

Cirrus Design spent some time this weekend briefing ANN on a novel program in which SR20 and SR22 Avidyne Entegra Multi-Function Displays will be upgraded to include a safety checklist designed to enhance a pilot's safety focus as he or she starts each flight.

Now, every time a pilot starts their aircraft, the MFD will display three pages of information inviting a personal inventory before takeoff regarding limitations, weather, flight planning, passenger briefing, and readiness to fly.

According to Cirrus Co-Founder and CEO Alan Klapmeier, "As a Cirrus owner and pilot, I appreciate the friendly reminder to make sure that I am personally prepared to fly myself and my passengers safely to our destination. It was natural to add 'Risk Assessment Tool' as a function of the versatile Avidyne Entegra MFD."

The first new page features the Cirrus "Envelope of Safety". This graphic display simplifies a myriad of information critical to safe flight decisions. The weather and experience limitations are the same rigorous standards utilized by Cirrus for dispatching any flights whether sales, corporate, or personal through the Cirrus Flying Club.

This resource contains information of value to all pilots regardless of airplane make or model. It is available as a free download from the Cirrus Pilot's World website.

Cirrus President and COO David Coleal adds, "Statistics show the majority of fatal accidents in aviation are related to a pilot making an unwise decision. At Cirrus, our commitment to safety extends beyond the product.  We work diligently to equip our owners and pilots with relevant information and tools to safely enjoy the utility of their airplane, within their own personal abilities.

The new resource pages were developed collaboratively with the Cirrus Owners and Pilots Association (COPA). Cirrus owners can obtain this latest software upgrade by contacting their local Cirrus Authorized Service Center.

The update includes rate improvements for XM refresh and other enhancements. An ANN Aero-Cast, featuring CD's Bill Stone discussing this program, will be webcast Wednesday.
