Homebuilt Helicopter Damaged During Engine Run Test

Canadian Officials Said Builder Was Not Attempting A Flight

A helicopter being built from a kit by a man in Canada was damaged Monday during an engine run test, according to police in Conception Bay South in Newfoundland.

The CBC reports that the local police responded to a report of a possible aircraft accident at the man's home. The builder, who was not identified, was reportedly conducting a test run of the aircraft's engine when it when it became slightly airborne, tilted sideways, and the rotors impacted the ground.

Because it was not technically a flight, the Transportation Safety Board said it would not be investigating the incident.

The builder has reportedly been working on his project for "several years." Police said the builder was not seriously injured.
