First Virgin Atlantic -9 Dreamliners To Fly From London To The U.S. East Coast

Virgin Atlantic Announces Routes For Its 787-9 Fleet

When Boeing delivers the first 787-9 variant of the Dreamliner to Virgin Atlantic, it will fly between London and destinations on the U.S. East Coast, the airline announced Monday.

Bloomberg reports that following delivery to the airline in September, the first flight is scheduled for October 28 from Heathrow in London to Logan Airport in Boston. It will fly that route six times weekly, the airline said.

Later Dreamliners will be placed in service on routes to Washington, D.C., Newark, and JFK airport in January and February next year. The airline has 17 of the longer airplanes on order from Boeing.

Virgin Atlantic CEO Craig Kreeger said in a statement that the Dreamliner will make up more than half the Virgin Atlantic fleet by 2018. Founder Sir Richard Branson said last month that the airline also plans to add the larger 787-10 when it enters service.
