Comm1 Aviation Scholarship Awarded To Colorado Pilot, Flight Dispatcher

Plans To Obtain CFI Ratings

Aero-News learned this week the Sixth Annual Comm1 Aviation Scholarship was awarded to Malachi O'Neill of Erie, CO.

O'Neill, 35, will receive a $1,000 scholarship award that will be used to assist him in his continued pursuit of a career in aviation. O'Neill will receive an Comm1 AudioPilot Adapter, in addition to the scholarship funds.

Out of the many worthy and inspiring applicants, O'Neill was selected on the basis of a number of criteria including:

  • Exceptional academic and flight training records
  • Outstanding aviation career aspirations
  • Excellent recommendations from mentor; and
  • Compelling financial need for the scholarship funds.

O'Neill graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Metropolitan State College of Denver, majoring in Aviation Technology, with a concentration in Air Carrier/General Aviation. He currently works as a Flight Coordinator at Mountain Aviation, managing 30 pilots and a fleet of 12 turbine aircraft. Malachi has also been involved with organ donor flights.

Having obtained his private, instrument and commercial Multi/Instrument licenses and becoming a Certified Dispatcher, Malachi now sets his sights toward his CFI ratings... a goal aided a bit by the scholarship.

"I can not think of a more deserving scholarship applicant," said Julian Tonsmeire, pilot mentor at Mountain Aviation. Malachi (below) displays a "vast knowledge of aviation", he added, and "his contagious enthusiasm, and his meticulous attention to detail would make him an ideal flight instructor."

"I am certain he would be an exceptional Instructor pilot who would spend the rest of his life sharing the joys of aviation with others."

The Annual Comm1 Aviation Scholarship Program offers financial assistance to individuals in their personal and professional pursuits in aviation. Representatives with e-Publishing Group state the scholarship is at the core of an ongoing series of efforts by the developers of Comm1 Radio Simulators to raise awareness about the importance of pilot communications proficiency at all levels of flight training, and to improving aviation safety.

The Comm1 pilot communications training series is heralded as "a tremendously innovative training tool" and "an essential supplement to any flight training syllabus" by ground and flight instructors at some of the most prestigious aviation universities, military and flight training facilities in the country. In the past five years, more than 30,000 pilots and instructors have used Comm1 interactive CD-ROM products for primary VFR and instrument communications training.
