FAA Approves Cranes For LA Stadium Construction

Facility Being Built For The Los Angeles Rams Near The Airport

The FAA has approved the erection of two large cranes that will be used to construct a $2.6 billion stadium in Inglewood, CA for the Los Angeles Rams NFL franchise.

The cranes will tower 195 and 228 feet above the construction site. Last Friday, the FAA gave the go-ahead for the cranes after determining that they would not be a hazard to air navigation.

The McClatchy News Service reports that the stadium developers completed site preparation and infrastructure work last month, and broke ground on the stadium. Completion is expected in 2019.

The stadium site is in the approach corridor for KLAX, and is easily visible to passengers on arriving flights. While the FAA approved the erection of the cranes, the overall stadium design remains under review by the agency to determine if it will interfere with airport radar. Developers expect that design matters to be resolved with the agency.

Meanwhile, there are at least eight additional applications for cranes at the site that are still under review by the agency.
