Superfortress to Stop in Delaware and New Jersey in May
The B-29 Superfortress that we all know and love, Doc, is making its way around the nation with a History Restored Tour. Organizers have recently added several more stops to DOC’s schedule, including next month in Delaware and New Jersey.
Despite nearly 1,700 B-29s being built by Boeing during World War II, Doc is one of only two that are still flying today. It was found abandoned in the Mojave Desert by Tony Mazzolini in 1987 and, over the course of more than 15 years, was restored to flying status. It is now a staple of the Warbird collection, owned and operated by the non-profit Doc's Friends.
The History Restored Tour is an annual event that brings Doc to cities across the US, offering ground and flight deck tours as well as 90-minute flight experiences. The mission typically gets Doc in the air for around 120 flight hours between early April and late October. Thousands are able to see, learn, and take flight in Doc every year.
Doc’s 2025 schedule has already kicked off. The bomber is slated to land at Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport in Oklahoma on April 14, following a trip to the Atlus Air Force Base Airshow. For the rest of April, it will head down to Texas, Arizona, and California. In early May, Doc will fly up north to Indiana for a display at the Evansville Wartime Museum.
Recently, organizers have added two more stops to the History Restored Tour. Doc will be on a static display at this year’s Power in the Pines Air Show and Open House at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey. Visitors will be able to take tours or flights in the aircraft on May 17 and 18.
A week prior, Doc will also be running flight tours at New Castle Airport in Wilmington, Delaware. This is the second of eight official stops in the 47-day tour.
