Sad news from the high desert of New Mexico -- George Cambron's
body has been found in the wreckage of his MiG-17.
The 50-year old Cambron was on a flight from Roswell to Deer Valley
Airport, north of Phoenix (AZ) Thursday when he radioed that he was
having fuel transfer problems, according to New Mexico State
Police.
"Heaven forbid, this should be an emergency. We have to come up
with some better ways of... getting assistance to us with things
like this."
Those words were uttered in frustration January 15th by David
Urban, who was an air traffic controller at Philadelphia
International Airport when authorities say a drunken pilot blew
through controlled airspace on a meandering, sometimes harrowing
joyride.
ANN Is Already On Scene and Ready To Report Some BIG News
ANN Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, is already in Las Vegas,
having set up ANN's new tradeshow display and checking into the
latest rumors on the eve of the 2004 rendition of the 2004 AEA
Convention and tradeshow. ANN will be support AEA's mission and the
interests of aviators the world over with DAILY coverage, special
editorial and (ta-da!), special AEA-specific Klyde Morris cartoons
for each day of the event, so we can have a little more fun, to
boot.
As the official daily news service for the Aircraft Electronics
Association confab, ANN has learned that there will be MAJOR
announcements at AEA this year... particularly in terms of GA
avionics. We have to keep our mouths shut until late Tuesday when

If 43 US airports aren't upgraded and expanded by 2020, the FAA
says they won't be able to deal with the expected increase in air
traffic.
"If you think we have problems with delay today, wait till you get
to 2013," said Catherine Lang, FAA deputy associate administrator
for airports. "Wait till 2020 and you've got 42 choices for
headaches."
The Navy wants it back -- a 60-year old Brewster F3A-1 Corsair
salvaged by warbird enthusiast Lex Cralley. So the government is
suing the Princeton (MN) aircraft mechanic, demanding he return the
wreckage he salvaged in 1990.
BAE Systems has introduced a day/night, all-weather capability
designed to enable pilots to navigate and land in degraded visual
environments. The capability combines radar, infrared sensors, and
low-light-level TV to enable pilot visibility in dust-outs, smoke,
fog, haze, rain, snow, and complete darkness.
The FAA continues to draw fire from Capitol Hill, from AOPA, and
from pilots over its proposed charity/sightseeing rule, which the
general aviation advocacy organization says would drive hundreds of
Part 91 sightseeing operators out of business and make thousands of
pilots ineligible to help charities raise funds by offering flights
for donations.

Embry-Riddle Professor To Join Boeing Satellite Systems
Ronald Madler, associate professor and chair of aerospace
engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, has been
selected for the Boeing Company's A.D. Welliver Faculty Summer
Fellowship for 2004. Madler, who teaches at the university's
Prescott, Ariz., campus, is one of only nine university professors
nationwide who were honored with the prestigious award by Boeing.
Madler will complete his six-week fellowship at Boeing Satellite
Systems in Southern California.

Philadelphia International Airport, speaking on January 15th to
colleagues in New York, after authorities say a drunken pilot blew
through controlled airspace on a meandering, sometimes harrowing
joyride. Despite the creation of a cabinet-level Homeland Security
Department, despite the ongoing vigilance at airports around the
country, the pilot was able to meander about Philadelphia's
controlled airspace for almost four hours before finally deciding
to land. In the process, a half-dozen flights were diverted from
his path and authorities say he almost collided with police

Pilots are picky.
Whether it's about servicing their aircraft, choosing a particular
route or checking the weather, pilots and aviation enthusiasts in
general want to get right to the meat of the matter and don't
suffer fools gladly. The last thing we seem to want is a
hassle.
That's why 767 pilot Mike Pearce has teamed up with Consumer Guide
and Planet Auto to form Crew Car.

SUBJECT: Airworthiness Directive
2004-06-13
SUMMARY: This amendment supersedes an existing
airworthiness directive (AD), applicable to certain Airbus model
A319 and A320 series airplanes, that currently requires repetitive
inspections to detect cracking and delamination of the containers
in which the off-wing emergency evacuation slides are stored, and
corrective actions if necessary. That AD also requires eventual
modifications of the slides, which terminates the requirement for
repetitive inspections. This action removes the currently required
repetitive inspections, and requires an additional modification of
the off-wing emer

SUMMARY: This amendment adopts a new airworthiness
directive (AD), applicable to certain Boeing Model747-400F series
airplanes, that requires repetitive detailed and general visual
inspections of the external fuselage skin for cracks; various
inspections of the affected area where cracks are found to
determine the extent of the damage; and repair of cracks. This
action is necessary to detect and correct fatigue cracks in the
fuselage skin and frame shear tie assemblies, which could propagate
and result in possible in-flight decompression of the airplane.
This action is intended to address the identified unsafe

SUMMARY: The FAA is adopting a new
airworthiness directive (AD) for certain The Lancair Company
(Lancair) Models LC40-550FG and LC42-550FG airplanes. This AD
requires you to repetitively inspect the fuel pressure transducer
for evidence of chafing and measure the cross section diameter (as
necessary). The AD also requires you to install a compliance kit at
a time dependent the outcomes of the inspections and measurement.
Installation of the kit is terminating action for the repetitive
inspection requirements. This AD is the result of several reports
of the fuel pressure transducer wearing

SUMMARY: This amendment adopts a new airworthiness
directive (AD), applicable to certain SAAB 2000 series airplanes,
that requires measuring the torque of the adjustable pin in the
rear attachment of the intermediate strut for both engines, and
retorquing the adjustable pins to the correct torque value. This
action is necessary to prevent long-term damage to the engine
mounting structure (EMS), and loss of redundancy on the EMS, which
could result in possible separation of an engine from the airplane,
reduced controllability of the airplane, and injury to persons or
property on the ground. This action is intended to addr
