ANA Cancels Some Dreamliner Flights

Reports Problems With Compressor Blades In Rolls-Royce Engines

Japan's All Nippon Airways (ANA) will cancel some of its Dreamliner flights over the next few weeks due to an issue with compressor blades in the Rolls-Royce engines that power the aircraft.

Fortune reports that ANA says that the blades are showing signs of corrosion under certain flying conditions. Nine domestic flights were cancelled Friday, and others are likely in the coming weeks, according to the airline.

The engines are Rolls-Royce Trent 1000, which are installed on 168 of the 445 Dreamliners currently in service, according Boeing's website.

A Boeing spokesman in Tokyo told Fortune that the company is "aware of the situation" and it is working with the engine manufacturer and the airline to resolve the issue.

Rolls-Royce said in an email to Fortune that it was also working with ANA "to minimize the effect on aircraft service disruption."
