New Company Integrates AI Into Drones

Aria Insights Leveraged From CyPhy Works Tethered Drone Technology

CyPhy Works has leveraged its tethered drone technology and spun off a new company, Aria Insights, to harness the data collected by drones by integrating AI and machine learning into its hardware.

Aria Insights, or AI, will provide customers with intelligent, autonomous drones that collect and analyze data to create actionable insight, thus speeding decision time.

“After 10 years of innovating and redefining drone technology, the team at CyPhy saw the limitations facing the industry — namely the complications and risks of retrieving and analyzing data,” says Lance Vanden Brook, CEO of Aria Insights.

“A number of our partners were collecting and housing massive amounts of information with our drones, but there was no service in the industry to quickly and efficiently turn that data into actionable insights. Moving beyond just a hardware provider, Aria is now a full-service solution that not only meets customers’ aerial needs, but also processes analytics that enable insightful decision making.”

Named after a flock of canaries, Aria Insights aims to deploy drones and AI to remove humans from unsafe situations, such as encountered by the public safety, oil and gas and other civil and commercial sectors.

The companies say decision makers won’t need to spend hours capturing and watching video, but instead Aria Insights’ robots will identify information of interest, send an alert when new information is detected, and connect the data to a digital 3-D map.

For example, AI drones could aid in the maintenance of confined spaces such as oil tankers or pipelines, so operators could identify areas that need repair without sending workers into potentially dangerous working conditions.

Aria’s drones can also monitor the development of a natural disaster and alert first responders of increased action in a certain area, the company says, as well as notify event organizers when parts of a crowd could require more supervision.

AI will continue to offer CyPhy Works’ Persistent Aerial Reconnaissance and Communications tethered drone, known as PARC, but also plans to launch new technology.
