Aero-TV: CompAir 6.2; Redefining the Limits of Kit Aircraft

Dare to CompAir

CompAir Aviation, the Merritt Island, Florida-based manufacturer of high-performance aircraft and float kits, showcased its slick and capable CompAir 6.2 at EAA’s AirVenture 2023.

The display aircraft was powered by a 350-horsepower, twin-turbo Lycoming engine mated to a Hartzell composite Top Prop. The Comp Air 6.2’s formidable power-train and one-hundred-gallon fuel capacity motivate the aircraft’s two-thousand-pound useful load at a cruising-speed of 175-knots. Range is advertised at a respectable 840-nautical-miles. Moreover, the Comp Air 6.2’s 22-cubic-foot baggage compartment ensures pilots and passengers arrive at their destinations with more than just the clothes on their backs.

Air Venture attendees desirous of even more power, performance, and payload rejoiced upon learning a 650-horsepower turbine powerplant is available for the CompAir 6.2. Subject mill increases the machine’s useful load to over 3,500-pounds and its cruise-speed to a crisp 230-knots.

The CompAir 6.2 was designed to carry passengers or cargo with maximum efficiency. The aircraft’s lightweight and aerodynamic airframe, constructed of laminated carbon-fiber, reduces drag and increases fuel-efficiency while providing a strong yet lightweight structure for maximum performance. All told, the CompAir 6.2 is an ideal conveyance for individuals requiring a versatile airplane capable of transporting passengers or cargo with ease.

Cognizant of the possibilities arising from the 6.2’s payload, power, and performance, the CompAir leadership has announced STC initiatives for Cessna’s 206 and 208-Caravan, and an LSA float.

The experimental kit iteration of the CompAir 6.2 arrives with most of the structural assembly and laminations already completed. In designing its model 6.2 kit, CompAir prioritized ease of building, thereby ensuring first-time builders derived enjoyment, not frustration from the experience of constructing their respective aircraft. The complete airframe kit—for which builder assist options are available—retails for $327,000.
