Cessna's Machinists To Vote On Contract Offer

Union Leadership Recommends Acceptance

They burned the proverbial midnight oil in Wichita (KS) Wednesday night, but it appeared to be worth the effort. Thursday, Machinists union leaders said they would recommend the rank and file accept the newest contract offer from Cessna.

The Wichita Eagle reports union members will vote on the three-year contract at Wichita's Kansas Coliseum on Saturday. The agreement would cover about 4,300 machinists.

If the rank and file ratifies the agreement, it would mean a four-percent raise in the first year and three-percent in each of the following two years.

The long-running but successful negotiations came after about 1,500 workers staged a demonstration against Cessna's offers to date.

"I believe the turnout from the rally yesterday played a big part in getting the company to make some moves in the contract," said union local leader Steve Rooney.
