Will Cancel Route In January, 2017

American Airlines has announced that it plans to cancel its daily service between New York, NY and Birmingham, England in January of next year.

Buying Business Travel reports that a spokesman for American said the carrier is constantly evaluating its network to ensure it is maximizing its fleet and profitability while matching customer demand. "Many factors influence network planning decisions; route performance is monitored over time to ensure that American is better positioning itself for long-term success against global competition," the spokesman said.

The airport said in a statement it was disappointed by the decision. "We appreciate that transatlantic air services are particularly competitive, however we are optimistic that another carrier will fill this gap shortly.

"There remains a strong demand from both the Midlands and North American market wanting to access these important regions and cities,” the airport said.

American has offered the route since 2015.
