AVMAP Offers XM WX Satellite Weather On Select Portable Navs

XM Satellite Radio has announced that AvMap will offer XM WX Satellite Weather as an option on their top-of-the-line portable navigation systems including the EKP-IV™, the EKP-IV PRO™ and the GeoPilot II Plus™. As part of XM Radio's ongoing effort to provide pilots with the widest selection and highest-quality XM WX-capable display solutions, the company has teamed with long-time aviation supplier AvMap.

AvMap's EKP-IV and EKP-IV PRO offer pilots a wide 7-inch sunlight-viewable LCD that operates in either a horizontal or vertical format. Embedded with Jeppensen cartography, night palette and advanced flight planning capabilities, the EKP IV systems were designed specifically with the pilot's needs in mind.

Additionally, AvMap's high-performance GeoPilot II Plus operates as a two-in-one solution combining both aeronautical and ground-based navigation systems into a single smart design. With a 5-inch ultra-bright LCD screen and a built-in Sirf Star III GPS receiver, the GeoPilot II Plus is equipped to track the pilot's position on the map simultaneously with the weather, providing enhanced situational awareness in the cockpit.

"I am extremely pleased to have AvMap as part of the XM WX family," said Walter Kerner, general manager, vertical markets for XM Satellite Radio. "I know pilots are going to appreciate the sophisticated engineering of AvMap's portable navigation systems. Having XM WX Satellite Weather on AvMap's compact, portable all-in-one devices will enable pilots to fly with even more confidence."

By adding the XM WX antenna, receiver and subscription to AvMap's moving map systems, pilots will have access to essential weather data products, including:

  • High-resolution NEXRAD radar
  • Lightning display
  • METARs (mid spring)
  • TAFs (mid spring)

Since its inception, XM WX Satellite Weather has become the recognized industry leader in satellite delivered weather data. In order to receive XM WX data, a subscription to the XM WX service is required.
