CAP Chaplain Killed in Iowa

182 Hit Power Lines on Training Flight

We understand that the flight Saturday was for "training purposes," but actual details of the flight that claimed the life of Civil Air Patrol Chaplain Maj. Christie Battle of Des Moines (IA), a CFI/passenger, are still sketchy.

We do not know why the experienced PIC, Lt. James Johnson of Oskaloosa (IA), who died in the crash, hit the power lines in the first place. There were no reported witnesses to the accident, and Chaplain Battle's comments, if any, have also not yet been reported.
