Source: Coast Guard Petty Officer Matthew Belson, regarding a Florida-based Cessna 414 pilot who had to ditch eight miles from the Connecticut shore. The 41-year old pilot clung to the sinking aircraft long enough to inflate his lifevest, call the Coast Guard on his cell phone, and light flares to attract a passing tugboat.
