Just Aircraft Offers Simple STOL, Simple Flying

Self-Deploying Slats, Build Assist Program Among Recent Upgrades

By Gene Yarbrough

Gary Schmidt from Just Aircraft announced the latest upgrades to their Highlander Super STOL aircraft. The improvements consist of self-deploying slats, shock absorbing landing gear, and a builder assist program. The slats are independently self-deploying, lowering stall speeds into the low to mid 20 mph range. The landing gear allows for up to 18” of travel with 5” of tail wheel range.

The company reports 38 total aircraft in the field, about 50% are the Super STOL model. The Super STOL kit is priced at $36,500 less engine, avionics, and paint. Quick build options are available; some Just Aircraft models are on the FAA 51% list. The Rotax 912S is the preferred engine choice.

Schmidt stated that expected performance of 100mph was achievable with standard tires, only losing around 9 mph with tundra tires. Take off performance was estimated at 100 ft with the minimum landing roll in the 20 ft range.
