City Of Albany, GA, Seeks FAA Funding For New Terminal

Airport Director Estimates The Project Will Cost $3.2 Million

The city of Albany, GA plans to ask the FAA to chip in $3.2 million for the construction of a new terminal at Southwest Georgia Regional Airport (KABY).

Airport director Yvette Aehle said that the figure represents the higher of the two lowest bids for the project, and told the Albany Herald that it was a good starting point for discussions with the FAA about partial funding for the building. She said the FAA would need to approve the figure before the city could award the bid.

The overall package of improvements planned for KABY will tip the financial scale at around $15 million, and include the new terminal, demolition of the existing building, and other improvements. The city is seeking a combination of federal and state funds along with a local option sales tax.
