CubCrafters Receives Approval For Sport Cub Float Install

Baumann 1500 Straight Floats Okay'd

CubCrafters announced this week the certification of Baumann 1500 Straight Floats for the Sport Cub... a plane company representatives tell ANN continues to impress with its performance.

For example, the fully-equipped test plane had an empty weight of 983 lbs... but leapt off the water at gross weight in less than eight seconds!

"One of the things you notice in Light Sport Aircraft is that they tend to be kitey... this airplane is light, but it is definitely not kitey," noted test pilot Len Fox, who conducted the spin testing this past week.

"I was not prepared for the performance we have seen with this airplane. It is a Super Cub in Sport Cub guise," added Chairman Jim Richmond. "I chased the Sport Cub that Len was spinning with a Husky on amphibs we have here for sale. We were spinning from 10,000 feet, and the Sport Cub was up there waiting for us for several minutes before we could get that high. I was not prepared for that kind of performance. It beat me into the air by a factor of two to three, and climbed faster too! Light weight does wonderful things for airplanes. Wow!"

A Sport Cub on Baumann 1500 Straight Floats starts at $141,500.

CubCrafters, founded in 1980 by current owner and Chairman Jim Richmond, is located at Yakima Air Terminal/ McAllister Field Airport (YKM) in Yakima, WA.
