Cleveland Passes UAV Legislation

Mirrors FAA Rules For Commercial And Recreational Drones

The Cleveland City Council has passed legislation that mirrors restrictions placed on both commercial and recreational UAV operators.

The law applies to unmanned aircraft being flown within the city limits.

Television station WKSU reports that the laws give local police the authority to enforce federal laws. Attorney Matt Mishak told the station that the FAA document is a guide to local law enforcement where they are seeking a partnership. It allows local first responders to gather evidence and help the FAA in finding unauthorized operators who may be flying unsafely.

Mishak said there are other cities in Ohio that have similar pending legislation.
