Announcement Comes During HAI Verticon 2025

magniX, manufacturer of electric motors for aviation based in Seattle, Washington, announced the launch of a new engine range for the emerging electric helicopter industry. The announcement was made at HAI Verticon 2025 in Dallas, Texas.

The new engine range is known as “HeliStorm” and is designed for rotor speeds of 6,000-7,000 RPM. It is lighter than turbine engines for similar aircraft and can equip both single and twin-engine hybrid-electric helicopters.

The first engine in the new series weighs 165 lb (75 kg) and provides a peak power of nearly 450 hp (330 kW). The engine can be coupled with the magniX Samson batteries.

While the growing eVTOL industry has received plenty of media attention the last few years, manufacturers of conventional helicopters has also made good progress in electrification. For example in June 2022 a Robinson R44 equipped with magniX motors conducted a successful first electrically powered test flight at the Los Alamitos Army Airfield in California.
