Airborne 09.11.20: Diamond DA50 RG Cert, Collings Fined, Apocalypse RV?

Also: uAvionics AV-30-C STC, Rocket Lab Licensed, USAF Supersonic Deal, Av Maintenance Program

Diamond Aircraft has confirmed EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency) certification for the new DA50 RG single engine piston with retractable gear.

This paves the way for initial EASA customer deliveries in Q1/2021. General Aviation’s new piston single offers retractable gear, double slotted flaps for high lift and superior slow speed behavior, good handling and flight characteristics, a 5-seat luxury cabin with a generous rear baggage compartment, Diamond’s well-known safety features, ramp appeal and a fuel-efficient jet-fuel engine. It's not been a good year for the Collings Foundation... The U.S. Department of Transportation’s FAA has proposed a $247,000 civil penalty against the Collings Foundation of Stow, Mass., for allegedly conducting unauthorized flights in a P-51D Mustang airplane. The Mustang in question is a limited category aircraft, and FAA regulations prohibit charging people for flights in this category of aircraft. Much of the West Coast has had to deal with the threat from massive fires that have produced equally massive areas of thick smoke and low visibility. That became evident yesterday via video shot in front of Van's Aircraft, in Oregon, announcing that they were sending staff home to allow them to protect their homes in the face of massive smoke and nearby fire threats. On Wednesday, Van's noted that, "Van’s Aircraft is closing for the remainder of the day. Staff members are being sent home due to the low air quality and the dynamic conditions in the surrounding areas, and so they can best take care of themselves and their families..." All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
