Blakey Says 'ADS-B Is Where We Need To Be'

So... Where Is Everybody?

ADS-B is on track. That's the word from FAA Administrator Marion Blakey in a speech to the Next-Generation Air Transport System Institute in Washington last week.

That message comes in spite of a two-month shut-down of the automatic dependent surveillance boradcasting (ADS-B) system in Alaska... one the FAA blamed on controllers who failed to maintain proper separation between ADS-B and non-ADS-B aircraft.

Blakey also says that technology is rapidly being embraced worldwide. This, in spite of Australia's decision to shelve low-level ADS-B development for the time being.

On the positive side, the system in Alaska is up and running once again... and helicopter operators in the Gulf of Mexico say they'll soon start using ADS-B as well.

Blakey says the next step comes in March, when the FAA starts taking bids on ADS-B equipment installation.
