Pilot Dealt 6 Months For Stalking Woman From Above

66-year-old pilot Michael Arnold was recently sentenced to six months in the can and five years of probation for violating an order of protection. He allegedly used his Cessna 180 to stalk and harass a Schuylerville woman.

The stalking began nearly five years ago when Arnold visited the victim’s workplace. Following this, he reportedly emailed her several disturbing photos. The victim then noticed an aircraft flying low over her home and workplace.

She attempted to bring the matter to the cops, but was told the case fell under the FAA’s jurisdiction. The victim stated that the Feds were of no assistance because she had no way of proving the plane’s proximity to her or who was piloting it. Eventually, she managed to get a Stay Away Order issued against Arnold, but it was ignored. He continued to stalk her from above and send her photos he had taken mid-flight, saying “karma” was going to get her.

The victim continued to file complaints to authorities, with at least four more made before May 2021. The judge renewed his Order of Protection in May 2023 and an investigation was opened shortly after, resulting in a ‘Do Not Fly’ order against him.

In October 2023, Arnold was arrested after being caught flying out of an airport in Bennington, Vermont. He pleaded not guilty and sold his plane. Then, in January 2024, he was locked up for violating an order of protection.

His sentencing was held on September 16, where he was dealt 6 months in jail and 5 months of probation. Arnold also received a stern talking-to from Hamilton County Judge Tatiana Coffinger.

"I'm still just stunned by the allegations and the level that you took this,” Coffinger told Arnold. “I'm also concerned by some of your behaviors since you entered your plea. I'm not sure why you do the things that you do. but your behaviors have to be tailored."

Arnold has, obviously, lost his license and is now facing a civil lawsuit from the victim, which is expected to come before a judge this fall.
