USCG Medevacs Man From Vessel 50 Miles Off Galveston

Crewman Found 30-Year Old Unconscious

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a 30-year-old man from a vessel located 50 miles off Galveston, Texas, on January 25, 2025.

At approximately 5 p.m. local time, watchstanders of Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston received a medevac request from a crew member stating that a 30-year-old male was found unconscious. The watchstandes consulted with the flight surgeon on duty, who recommended a medevac operation be carried out.

The watchstanders coordinated the launch of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and air crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston to conduct the medevac.

The helicopter crew arrived on the scene and hoisted the crew member up to the helicopter, which then transported him to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He was reported to be in stable condition.

The MH-65 Dolphin is a Eurocopter-built twin-engine helicopter that is medevac-capable and used for both search and rescue and armed airborne missions. It is a variant of the Eurocopter AS365 Dauphin and is primarily a short-range recovery aircraft. There are now 102 MH-65 Dolphins in the USCG fleet using home ports in17 cities around the country in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, Gulf of Mexico, Hawaii, and Great Lakes regions.
