Chambliss Injured By Canopy Failure During Abu Dhabi Red Bull Air Race

Possible Broken Nose and 'A Few Scratches'

No one said that air racing was easy... and the Red Bull style of air racing the least of all. However; it appears that Red Bull Air Racer Kirby Chambliss escaped serious injury when his canopy failed while staging for a Red Bull Air racing event.

According to a limited statement from the Chambliss support team, "Kirby's canopy came off when he was in the hold and warming up, waiting for Peter (Besenyei) to finish in Heat 2. The canopy hit him in the face resulting in a possible broken nose and a few scratches. He is going to be fine!"

Its a tough start for Chambliss, who has admitted that his 2014 race results (where he finished well toward the rear of the pack) did not meet his standards or expectations. "It was one of the worst seasons ever for me. I've always finished fourth or better and I've been on the podium at least a couple of times every season. I've even won the whole thing twice! So for me, it was horrible. I'll spend any amount of money right now because I want to win. I'm going to do everything I can," said Chambliss.

We are awaiting word of what may be required to get Kirby back in flying condition... as well as the extent of damage to his aircraft. We'll keep you updated and wish Kirby the best possible recovery and future success.
