Ike Carrier Strike Group Changes Command At Sea

Rear Adm. Jesse Wilson Relieves Rear Adm. Bruce Lindsey

Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 10 held a change of command ceremony while embarked aboard the flagship USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) (Ike), Dec. 1.

Rear Adm. Jesse Wilson relieved Rear Adm. Bruce Lindsey.

Lindsey, a naval aviator, was flying in an F/A-18 from Strike Fighter Squadron (VF) 32, when he radioed Wilson, a surface warfare officer in primary flight control aboard Ike, to conduct the change of command.

Lindsey, who took command of CSG-10 on Aug. 1, 2014, led the first carrier strike group implementation of the Optimized Fleet Response Plan (OFRP) which represents the Navy's new strategy of generating ready forces for employment.

Under his leadership, OFRP was operationalized on the waterfront with the greatest improvements coming in both the manning and training lines of effort. As the first CSG to enter and execute the first cycle of OFRP, Ike CSG is laying the foundation for significant improvements throughout the entire OFPR cycle.

"The hard work of the men and women in Carrier Strike Group 10 is exceptional," said Lindsey. "Without their sacrifice, professionalism and dedication, we would never have come this far in such a short time and under such pressurized conditions to operationalize OFRP. I am continuously inspired by the determination that they exhibit daily while performing their assigned missions and tasks."

His next assignment is commander, Carrier Strike Group 4, Norfolk, Va.

A native of California, MD and the son of a retired Navy master chief petty officer, Wilson assumed command of CSG-10 following his last tour of duty as director, Joint Integrated Air and Missile Defense Organization, Joint Staff/J8, Arlington, VA.

"I am incredibly honored and humbled to have the opportunity to serve as the commander of the Ike Strike Group as it undergoes a robust training and operational schedule," said Wilson. "To conduct the change of command at sea is fitting as the team trains together to become more than ready to execute national tasking when called upon."

The Norfolk-based strike group is comprised of the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, Carrier Air Wing 3, USS San Jacinto (CG 56), USS Monterey (CG 61), and Destroyer Squadron 26 and its associated ships USS Barry (DDG 52), USS Stout (DDG 55), USS McFaul (DDG 74), USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79), USS Mason (DDG 87) and USS Nitze (DDG 94).

The strike group commander's duties are to oversee operational training and readiness for the entire group and to maintain administrative functions and material warfighting readiness support for ships and squadrons.
