CMC Electronics Inc. has appointed Jean-Michel Comtois as vice president of the company's military aviation business unit.  In leading CMC's military aviation business, Comtois oversees operations in Chicago, Illinois; Ottawa, Ontario; Montreal, Quebec; and the United Kingdom.

Comtois joined CMC Electronics in February 2000, and has been vice president, government and public affairs, since September 2002. Comtois is a retired general in the Canadian Armed Forces, with extensive command and leadership experience. He began his career as a fighter pilot and CF-18 squadron commander, then as the wing commander of an operational CF-18 Wing.  Subsequently, he was the command director of the NORAD command centre in Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado, and then, was deputy commander of the continental U.S. NORAD region with over 10,000 personnel who operated fighter and surveillance assets throughout the U.S. He later joined the Canadian Department of National Defence (DND) and held the position of director general of management renewal services at DND headquarters in Ottawa. In this post, he spearheaded alternate service delivery initiatives, business process re-engineering, modeling and decision support services.

"Jean-Michel is highly qualified to lead this key CMC division given the leadership skills he gained during an illustrious military career, combined with his valuable experience in government-industry relations, strategic planning, program and human resources management," said Jean-Pierre Mortreux, president and CEO, CMC Electronics.

Comtois holds a B.A. in economics and commerce from the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario, and is a graduate of the National Defence College. He is a member of the Order of St. John and was awarded the Canadian Order of Military Merit, the American Legion of Merit and the American Meritorious Service Medal.

CMC Electronics has earned an international reputation for the design and production of innovative, highly reliable military and commercial electronics products for the aviation and global positioning markets. Systems integration, advanced avionics and human factors engineering services are the basis for the company's long-standing relationship with the armed forces of Canada, the United States and a host of other countries.
