London Court Awards Kuwait Airlines Damages From First Gulf War

Carrier May Recover $300M From Iraqi Airways

A court in London has chimed in on the 14-year old dispute between Kuwait Airways and Iraqi Airways -- one that dates back to the first Gulf War.

When Saddam Hussein's troops invaded Kuwait, the Iraqi carrier flew four Kuwait Airways planes to Mosul, where the aircraft were either destroyed or heavily damaged in the first Gulf War. Since 1991, Kuwait Airways has demanded compensation -- more than $300-million, according to media reports -- for the planes.

The case has already been judged twice. This time around, however, the High Court in London threw out the earlier rulings, saying testimony in those cases was either tainted or flat-out perjury.

Given that kind of track record -- this very well may not be the end of the case.
