Diamond DA62 MPP Completes 9-Hour 20-Minute Surveillance Mission

Capable, Efficient, Long-Endurance Platform With Advanced Tech

Diamond Aircraft announced that its DA62 MPP (Mulit-Purpose Platform) demonstrated its capability as an efficient and versatile, long-endurance aircraft by conducting a 9-hour and 20-minute surveillance mission carrying advanced-technology surveillance equipment.

The flight spanned more than 900 nm without refueling, covering from its home base in Wiener Neustadt, over Austria, the west coast of Croatia the east coast of Italy, and a return leg through Venice and Carinthia in southern Austria.

The route provided a diverse mix of operational environments including mountainous terrain, maritime, and coastal surveillance, featuring its advanced technology systems and reliable performance in real-world conditions.

The Jet-A burning diesel twin-engine averaged 8.6 gallons per hour of fuel consumption. Its payload consisted of the ARTEMIS T-U IMSI Catcher from UK-based Smith Myers and the state-of-the-art EO/IR camera EUROFLIR 410 by the French aerospace company Safran.

The DA62 MPP is powered by the Austro Engine AE330 turbocharged jet-fuel diesel engines that burn the widely-available Jet-A and deliver efficiency, reliability, and low operational cost.

The Smith Myers ARTEMIS T-U search and rescue system provides real-time signal location and analysis to enable operators to monitor mobile communications over telecom frequencies, important for search and rescue, law enforcement, and maritime surveillance.

Safran’s Euroflir 410 operates in four spectral wavebands — TV, Near InfraRed, Short-Wave IR, and Mid-Wave IR – with a wide field of view and ultra-long-range observation to enable functions at stand-off distances during day or night flight. It is specially adapted and suitable for supporting law enforcement, homeland security, border and coastal surveillance, intelligence gathering, and SAR/CSAR.
