Airshow London to Welcome USAF Thunderbirds

Canadian Forecast Calls for Thunder, Not Snow…

Airshow London is among the Great White North’s most popular, extensive, and exciting aerial hootenannies. The family-friendly, drive-in event features static displays of fascinating aircraft such as the U.S. Air Forces F-15E Eagle, C-5M Super Galaxy, F-16 Falcon, KC-10 Extender, HC-130J Combat King II, and KC-46A Pegasus, as well as the U.S. Marine Corps’ patently weird MV-22 Osprey.

Overhead, Airshow London boasts flight displays by renowned outfits the likes of the USAF’s F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team, and the Royal Canadian Air Force’s CF-18 Hornet Demo Team. Cognizant of Canada’s immense contributions to the Allied war effort, the show’s organizers have gone to considerable lengths to ensure attendees are afforded opportunity to experience the visceral thrill of flyovers by magnificent, increasingly rare warbirds such as Boeing’s B-17 Flying Fortress, North American’s B-25 Mitchell, and Douglas’s C-47 Skytrain.

Additional contemporary aircraft—to include the U.S. Navy’s P-8A Poseidon, the USAF’s E-3 Sentry, and B-2 Spirit—will make appearances throughout Airshow London—which will take place on September 09, 10, and 11, 2022 at London International Airport (CYXU) in London, Ontario, Canada. Parties showing up in the U.K.’s capital city expecting to see an airshow are apt to be sorely disappointed.

On 15 August 2022—in keeping with the Monroevian axiom that too much of a good thing is wonderful—it was announced that the United States Air Force’s Thunderbirds would headline Airshow London. The event’s organizers stated in a press release: “Airshow London is proud to welcome back the United States’ national air force demonstration team as SkyDrive is set to celebrate the U.S. Air Force 75th anniversary.”

Airshow London director of air operations Gerry Vanderhoek added: “As an established premier air show in Canada, we look forward to our 2022 event, providing our fans with an unmatched experience. We can’t wait to host the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, representing the positive reputation Airshow London is creating within North America. With clear skies ahead for 2022 and beyond, we are extremely proud to showcase our SkyDrive event once again.”

Created in response to the Covid-19 madness, Airshow London’s drive-in concept sees arriving guests directed to their own 20 X 25-foot parking site, from which they can take in the proceedings tail-gate style, and listen to the show’s announcer on their car radios. Food vendors and displays will be on hand, but guests are welcome to bring their own food and refreshments.
