Massachusetts High School Plans Aviation Program Launch

Official Opening Of Westfield Technical Academy Aviation Maintenance Program Set For Monday

A high school in Massachusetts is about to become the first in the northeast to offer a soon-to-be-FAA-certified aviation maintenance program.

Westfield Technical Academy is Westfield, MA will hold a grand opening and open house for launching its new aviation program on Monday, January 25.

The program has been in the works since school officials began researching the possibility of establishing an aviation maintenance curriculum in the fall of 2013, according to masslive.com. Principal Stefan Czaporowski said that the goal of the program is to "give students the opportunity to meet FAA requirements to secure a career in aviation maintenance."

Four aircraft have already been donated to the school for the program. One will be transported to the school grounds for the opening ceremony, which will also feature an appearance by a Black Hawk helicopter landing on the school football field.

Students will actually work on the aircraft in a renovated hangar at Westfield-Barnes Regional Airport (KBAF).
