FAA Publishes Tampa TFR Plans For Republican Convention

Restrictions In Place August 26-30

The FAA said Wednesday it will be issuing TFR’s in "support" of the Republican National Convention taking place later this month in Tampa, FL. The FAA says the restrictions are designed to provide a safe and secure environment for the event.

The airspace defined in the advance advisory and the published NOTAM as will be classified as 'National Defense Airspace'. Pilots who do not adhere to the published procedures may be intercepted, detained and interviewed by law enforcement/security personnel. Violating the TFR can result in administrative action against the pilot, including imposing civil penalties and the suspension or revocation of airmen certificates, criminal charges, or the use of deadly force against the airborne aircraft, if it is determined that the aircraft poses an imminent security threat.

A TFR will be put in place on August 26th centered at 274606N/0823912W and will consist of a 30NM outer ring and a 10NM inner core, from the surface up to but not
including 18,000 FT MSL. The TFR will be in effect from 1400 -2300 EDT.

From August 27th to August 30th a TFR will be centered at 275713N/0822801W and will consist of a 3NM ring, from the surface up to but not including 5,000 FT MSL. The TFR will be in effect from 0900-1600 EDT daily. A second TFR will be in place on those dates centered at 275713N/0822801W and consisting of a 30NM outer ring and a 10NM inner core, from the surface up to but not including 18,000 FT MSL. The TFR will be in effect from 1200-2359 EDT on the 27th, and from 1600-2359 EDT
thereafter.

Operations at Knight Airport (KTPF) will be prohibited when either TFR is in effect.

The same flight restrictions for a Presidential TFR will apply. Pilots are strongly advised to check NOTAMS before flying in the Tampa area the last few days of August, as the FAA says the TFR's can be changed "with little or no notice."

So lets be careful out there, and don't have us writing about you as a pilot who suddenly found themselves with an F-16 escort.
