Duncan Breaks Ground on Pratt & Whitney DOF

Facility to Provide Maintenance and Overhaul for PW300 and PW500 Engines

Duncan Aviation recently broke ground on its new Pratt & Whitney Canada Designated Overhaul Facility (DOF) in Lincoln, Nebraska. The facility will support the maintenance and overhaul of PW300 and PW500 power plants.

Representatives from Pratt & Whitney Canada, Hausmann Construction, Tectonic Management Group, and Duncan Aviation attended the ceremony.

“This groundbreaking symbolizes a trusted commitment between two great companies that dates back decades,” expressed Todd Duncan, Chairman of Duncan Aviation. “It is the result of years of effort through strategic agreements and mutual trust and holds immense significance.”

The new, 36,000-square-foot DOF was designed by Tectonic Management Group and will be built by Hausmann Construction. The planned facility contains 12 engine maintenance bays, a warehouse for parts inventory, and additional back shops. For enhanced safety and efficiency, it will feature an overhead crane, a floor-mounted rotating jib crane, and designated rooms for various tasks.

The facility’s Atec test cell and control room will support PW300 and PW500 engines. It will utilize Atec’s small turbofan test cell, limiting noise in the testing area and providing more airflow with a smaller environmental footprint. This can handle business and regional jet engines producing up to 20,000 lbs of thrust.

“Duncan Aviation has provided maintenance and overall services for Pratt & Whitney Canada PW300 and PW500 engines for decades,” commented Irene Makris, vice president of Customer Service at Pratt & Whitney Canada. “This new facility plays a crucial role in strengthening our engine overhaul services, providing even greater support and efficiency to our customers.”

This facility will be joining Duncan’s existing Lincoln, Nebraska headquarters. This is the company’s largest facility, supporting five hangars and 888,000 square feet for aircraft maintenance, repair, overhaul, paint, and sales.

Construction of the DOF is slated to be completed by 2026. Duncan expects a related demand spike in airframe maintenance, paint, avionics, completions, and component services for Pratt & Whitney Canada engine operators.
