Aero-TV: Transitioning To LSA -- Reconfiguring the Progressive Aerodyne SeaRey

One Of Our Favorite LSAs, A Very Cool Amphib No Less, Readies For Serial Production

One of our favorite little Amphibs (one of the nicest that ANN's Jim Campbell has ever evaluated... of over 1200 types in the last 40 years) has received the necessary blessings from the requisite authorities to be offered for sale, fully-built, to the flying public.

Late last year, Progressive Aerodyne, Inc., (PA) the manufacturer of SeaRey, Light Sport Amphibian Airplane, successfully passed an FAA Light Sport Aircraft Prototype Audit by the audit team from FAA AIR-200 in Washington D.C. and obtained an airworthiness certification from the FAA Orlando MIDO (Manufacturing Inspection District Offices) office on November 8, 2012. PA has been working for a few years diligently to meet relevant ASTM standards and was the first one out of seven Light Sport Aircraft manufacturers in the past two years to pass the FAA audit without any major findings.

The SeaRey aircraft, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, now has over 500 kit-built SeaReys are flying world wide. The SeaRey is a two place, amphibious flying boat that fits within the light sport category. With its landing gear retracted it can land on water with the main aircraft hull floating and essentially serving as a boat hull. Deployable landing gear gives this plane a tremendous amount of versatility. With the landing gear down the plane can taxi up out of the water onto a beach, boat ramp, or waterfront homeowner’s back yard. It can also land at traditional airports.
